Buc-ee’s is officially one major step closer to opening its first Southwest Florida location.

On September 8, Charlotte County commissioners unanimously approved the final detailed site plan for a Buc-ee’s travel center near Interstate 75 on Harborview Road in Port Charlotte.

The approved plans include:

  • A roughly 74,000-square-foot travel center
  • 120 fueling positions
  • Approximately 740 parking spaces
  • Supporting utilities, stormwater systems and site infrastructure
  • A location spanning more than 28 acres

This approval allows the developer to move forward with applications for building and construction permits. Construction has not officially started, and Buc-ee’s has not announced an opening date, so there is still more work ahead.

Port Charlotte is outside my usual hyper-local coverage area, but this is too big—and too exciting—not to share. Depending on where you start and traffic conditions, the future location will be approximately an hour from parts of Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch and Parrish.

For local residents who currently have to drive several hours to visit Buc-ee’s, Southwest Florida may finally be getting one much closer to home.

Thinking about a move in Sarasota or Manatee County?
