After nearly 10 months of renovations, Sarasota County’s Fruitville Library is preparing to welcome visitors back!

The library will officially reopen Thursday, October 15, at 10 a.m., bringing a refreshed community space back to residents near Fruitville Road and Celery Fields.

Located at 100 Apex Road, the library closed in December 2025 as part of a major renovation and expansion project that also includes construction of a new Sarasota County History Center.

Visitors returning this week will notice updated interiors, new furnishings, and additional areas designed for reading, studying, and collaboration.

Regular library services will also resume, including access to books, computers, printing, study areas, children’s programming, and the full library collection.

But the transformation isn’t finished just yet.

Construction will continue on several additional features, including:

  • A dedicated Teen Room
  • A Creation Station for hands-on learning and creative projects
  • An expanded meeting room with upgraded technology
  • New courtyard and garden spaces

The new Sarasota County History Center, being constructed alongside the library, also remains underway.

The combined library and History Center project represents an investment of approximately $28 million in community facilities.

For families, students, and longtime residents, the reopening means the return of an important gathering place that has served the Fruitville area for more than two decades.

And with additional spaces still coming, there’s more to look forward to beyond Thursday’s reopening.

The library is located at 100 Apex Road in Sarasota and will reopen at 10 a.m. on October 15.
