Sarasota Memorial is expanding again in Venice, with preliminary site work now underway for a new outpatient medical facility next to the SMH-Venice campus.
The approximately 54,000-square-foot, three-story building is planned for Curry Lane and will significantly expand cancer, digestive health and specialty outpatient services for South Sarasota County.
The first floor is expected to include radiation oncology along with medical, surgical and radiation oncology physician clinics as Sarasota Memorial expands its Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute into Venice.
The third floor will house a new outpatient endoscopy center and Sarasota Memorial First Physicians Group gastroenterologists. The second floor will initially be prepared for future expansion as healthcare needs in the area continue to grow.
Sarasota Memorial had previously committed to only part of the building for digestive health services. The health system has now leased the entire facility, allowing it to bring a much broader range of outpatient services to the Venice area.
Preliminary site work has already started. Pending final permitting and construction approvals, the developer will move forward with the building shell, followed by Sarasota Memorial’s specialized interior build-out. Those specialized centers are expected to be completed in 2028.
For residents of Venice and surrounding South Sarasota County communities, the expansion means more advanced cancer treatment and specialty care will eventually be available closer to home without requiring as many trips north to Sarasota.
