A major parking expansion is being planned at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), potentially bringing thousands of new parking spaces to one of Southwest Florida’s busiest travel hubs.
New details reported October 20 reveal plans for a multilevel parking garage designed to address growing passenger demand and the airport’s ongoing parking challenges.
The proposed garage would provide approximately 3,700 parking spaces, with preliminary plans showing four parking levels and the possibility of a five-story design. Rental car facilities could also be incorporated into the ground level, helping reorganize traffic and improve access around the terminal.
Construction is expected to take place in phases to minimize disruptions to existing parking. Airport officials anticipate beginning design work in January 2027, with construction potentially starting approximately one year later.
The project is still in the planning and environmental review stages. No construction start or completion date has been officially confirmed. Public comments on the airport’s draft environmental assessment are being accepted through November 4, 2026.
For travelers throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties, the proposed expansion could eventually provide a more convenient alternative to crowded surface lots, overflow parking and shuttle services.
